Ben Lachman
Technical founder and software strategist
Ben Lachman is a technical founder and Silicon Valley entrepreneur based in Ohio, with more than 15 years of experience building technology products and the businesses around them. He co-founded Nice Mohawk, a digital product studio in San Francisco and Athens, Ohio, that makes apps, designs new products and helps companies make smart decisions, and before returning to Ohio he led two successful software companies. His work runs from the details of high-quality user experience to apps scaling to hundreds of thousands of users, and from revenue models and analytics to fundraising pitches. As a coach and consultant he has supported startups coast to coast, advised small businesses, created solutions for Fortune 50 companies and counseled entrepreneurs on software development strategy.
With Andrew Cantino he co-edited The Orbital Index, a concise, technical weekly newsletter on space science, exploration and the space industry. They started it while Ben was working at an early-stage venture firm, published nearly every week for almost seven years, and ended weekly publication with issue 350 in January 2026.
Lachman grew up running through the woods of Southeastern Ohio and poking at computers. He spoke at Greyt Big Talk in November 2023 at LAND Moto.

LAND Moto designs and builds lightweight, American-made electric motorcycles in Cleveland, with top speeds over 70 mph and up to 110 miles of range. The company was founded by Scott Colosimo, who earlier started Cleveland CycleWerks. Greyt Big Talk met in LAND's West 65th Street shop in November 2023, when Ben Lachman spoke among the workbenches, with live music.

Ben grew up running through the woods of Southeastern Ohio and poking at computers. Today he chases his kids through the woods, and the computers he pokes at are made out of aluminum rather than beige plastic, but little else has changed. Ben sometimes has a mohawk and loves products that create meaningful value, encourage creative experiences, and change our world.
