Judy Semroc
Naturalist and founder, Nature Spark
Judy Semroc is a conservation specialist, field biologist and naturalist with more than 35 years of experience leading hands-on, exploration-based learning. A former petroleum geologist and science teacher, she shares the wonders of the natural world through interpretive hikes, educational programs and photography.
For more than two decades she worked as a conservation specialist in the Natural Areas Division of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, helping study and protect Ohio's diverse ecosystems. She is co-author of two field guides, Dragonflies & Damselflies of Northeast Ohio and Goldenrods of Northeast Ohio: A Field Guide to Identification & Natural History. She founded Chrysalis in Time, Ohio's first chapter of the North American Butterfly Association, and serves on the board of the Ohio Bluebird Society and on the Ohio Ornithological Society's Conservation Committee.
Through her organization Nature Spark she leads guided field trips, biological inventories and property surveys, and programs for children and adults, from monarch tagging to pollinator and rain garden consulting. She spoke at Greyt Big Talk in April 2025 at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes with a talk called "Nature's Symphonies."

The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes conserves a 20-acre natural area in the heart of Shaker Heights, with about two miles of trails open dawn to dusk. It was founded in 1966 by a grassroots community effort that stopped a freeway from cutting through the Shaker Parklands, and its building opened in 1969. Its mission is to conserve a natural area, connect people with nature and inspire environmental stewardship; more than 17,000 children take part in its school programs each year. Greyt Big Talk met at the Nature Center in April 2025, when Judy Semroc of Nature Spark spoke on nature's symphonies.
