About the organization
Sustainable Community Associates (SCA) is a real estate developer founded by Naomi Sabel, Ben Ezinga and Josh Rosen while they were undergraduates at Oberlin College. It takes on catalytic, complicated projects that larger developers overlook, from old gas stations and dry cleaners to historic factories and schools, and owns, manages and maintains all of its properties. Its buildings are Enterprise Green Communities or LEED certified.
Its first project, East College Street (2010), expanded downtown Oberlin. In Tremont it turned the 1930 Fairmont Creamery into 30 apartments and five businesses in 2014, then followed with the Wagner Awning Building, The Tappan, The Lincoln and the West 17th Street Townhomes, plus Mueller Lofts. Its newest project turns the 1917 Hawthorne Elementary into 37 apartments. SCA has brought more than $120 million of projects from concept to occupancy and is based on West 17th Street in Tremont.
