About the organization
The Roaming Biscuit is a biscuit sandwich shop founded by Shawnda Moye, who describes it as a Black-owned, woman-led company with no investors. Moye, originally from Cincinnati, came back to Ohio after a corporate sales career that took her to several Southern states, and found that no one in Cleveland was making homemade biscuit breakfast sandwiches. She started The Roaming Biscuit in 2019 as a roving pop-up in borrowed kitchens and cafes around the city, then opened a Bake Shop & Café in Tyler Village on Superior Avenue in 2021.
In July 2023 it opened its flagship in Hingetown, Ohio City, at 1418 West 29th Street, in the former Bigmouth Donuts space, with a short menu of biscuit sandwiches and rotating specials such as a brisket biscuit. Its biscuits made Cleveland Magazine's 2023 list of 101 Dishes to Try Before You Die.
