Mark Kohoot

Mark Kohoot is an inventor, entrepreneur, and founder of Aeroscena, a Cleveland-based company that develops and studies olfactory interventions for health and well-being. His work sits at the intersection of olfaction, biology, design, communications systems, and clinical research. Since founding Aeroscena in 2010, he has collaborated with clinicians and researchers to explore how carefully composed olfactory interventions can influence anxiety, nausea, pain, sleep, stress, and other physiological processes.

His practice begins with a simple question: what information does the body receive from the molecules all around us, and what does it do with that information? Over sixteen years, that question has shaped how he designs and studies olfactory experiences, with attention to timing, context, dose, and the responses that appear before a scent is named or identified.

Before Aeroscena, Kohoot worked in international relations, telecommunications, and other digital technologies in the United States and Europe. Beyond the specific work of those roles, his practice has consistently involved cross-pollinating ideas from otherwise unconnected domains and translating them into practical forms people can experience.
